Fortuna Investments expands to Miami Beach with plans to invest in space industry


Canada-based Fortuna Investments is making its U.S. debut in Miami Beach, with plans to invest in the up-and-coming space industry.

The venture capital firm currently has a small office at 1800 Sunset Harbor Drive and plans to add personnel in Miami this year. It is also establishing an office in Los Angeles to have a West Coast presence.

VC Firm Fortuna Expands into Space Investing


Fortuna Investments is opening a Miami office with the goal of investing in 12 early-stage space startups over the next few years. 

“I think it’s an incredible time to get involved and allocate capital,” Fortuna founder and CEO Justus Parmar told Payload. “We have a lot of powder dry and are looking for opportunities.”

Fortuna 101: The VC firm was founded in 2015 and counts over 30 employees. Fortuna, which Parmar primarily funds himself, has invested in over 125 startups, focusing on emerging industries such as robotics, life sciences, and lithium mining.

Rocket Lab reported a widening net loss for the April-June quarter, but its revenue from launch and satellites is growing by double digits.

“Rocket Lab’s revenue and cash positions are trending in the right direction. I’m less concerned with quarter-to-quarter performance,” Justus Parmar, CEO of Fortuna Investments, a venture capital firm investing in renewable energy and space startups, told Observer.

Justus Parmar, 36, is an entrepreneur and the managing director of Fortuna Investments, a Vancouver-based venture-capital firm. He also created and funds the Justus Parmar Group Scholarship Foundation, which awards scholarship funds to finance students at the University of British Columbia, and is an active board member and fundraiser for Face of Today, a charity working to end the stigma of mental health issues impacting youth.

I was born and raised in Duncan, B.C., a small town on Vancouver Island, and have been living in Vancouver for the past 14 years. My mother was a nurse and my father had a small import-export business.
